Silom Road

Silom Road is the funancial district of Thailand, you’ve read that correctly FUNANCIAL! A place of fun and at the same time it is the financial district of Thailand. The Silom area (which includes Sathorn Road) is lined with awesome looking skyscrapers where many major financial institutions and global companies make their home. By day, Silom is a dynamic and vibrant work environment, where people dressed in business attires are busily rushing from place to place while talking on their cell phones. By night, it’s a whole different story as Silom sheds its business suites and puts on its party costume.

As the sun sinks into the Chao Phraya River, the neon lights flashes on, the music starts, street vendors setup their shops, and the fun seekers descend on the area. Silom is once again lively, but beating to a totally different type of music.

Access to the area is made easy by the BTS Sala Daeng station and the MRT Silom station. For shoppers, the Patpong night market and Suan Lum Night Bazaar (MRT Lumphini station) will be to your delight. The Patpong night market offers a variety of unique souvenirs and knockoff goods (clothing and watches). The prices are pushed as high as the skyscrapers, so be prepared to bargain there. As for the Suan Lum Night Bazaar, it is a huge night market that’s well organized and setup for shopping, entertainment, and dining. The place has nearly everything that the Chatuchak market offers, but a bit pricier.

For those that are into the wild thing, you can seek your adventures in the infamous Patpong area, Soi Patpong 1 & 2. There, you can witness unimaginable sex shows involving ping pong balls, darts and other items. Be prepared to be harassed by touts trying to sell you on watching these shows. If you buy into it, you can end up spending a whole load of money on the hiked up drink prices. It’s best to just watch the nudie dance on the lower floor. If you really want to see the ping pong ball show, make sure you ask about the prices first (for the drinks, show, and any hidden charges such as “VIP” seating).

There are probably hundreds of other entertainment options in the Silom area, but here are some of the major ones. For the rest, you’ll just have to go there and explore!

• Soi Thaniya: Little Japan in Bangkok, it offers Japanese style bars, clubs and restaurants. It’s a good place for some authentic Japanese foods and sake.
• Silom Soi 2 & 4: This is the gay nightlife district of Bangkok. You can venture in for something different as everyone’s welcomed.
• Silom Complex: A modern shopping complex with department stores and supermarket.
• Thaniya Plaza: Offers Japanese restaurants and many stores selling golf equipments.

Have fun and share your Thai Xperience!
