Fresh Markets

Fresh, cheap, and oh so good! That’s how we like it here in Thailand for just about anything, but in this case I’ll focus on fresh produce and meats at the open-air “fresh markets. Not only do these markets offer garden fresh vegetables, exotic fruits, meats and poultry, but they also have an endless array of cooked foods and desserts that you won’t find at restaurants in the tourist areas. Best of all, the prices are very cheap compared to the modern supermarkets, so there’s no need to even bargain!

Besides getting something yummy for your tummy, the fresh market offers a peek into the real Land of Smiles. There are no frills here, no souvenirs, no façades or neon lights to lure tourists in. If the saying “You are what you eat” rings any truth, then this is where you’ll find a piece of the heart and soul of Thailand and the Thai people.

Here are some fresh markets that I recommend you check out:
Or Tor Kor Market
How to get there:
MRT: Take the underground train and get off at Kamphaeng Phet station and take Exit #3 and voila! You’re at market.
BTS:  Take the sky-train and get off at Saphan Kwai station, from there take a Tuk-Tuk. (just tell them “Talard Or Tor Kor”.

Ying Charoen Market Opens 24 hrs a day
How to get there:
Ying Charoen Market is not too far away from Or Tor Kor market actually. I say you can just hop on a taxi and tell them “Talard Ying-Ja-Rern”.
