| There are many pretty things here in Thailand, and Thai people are very much obsessed with all things pretty, including myself I must admit. The marketer here knows this very well and it’s the precise reason why they employ very attractive ladies to stand next to their product. These pretty faces are in fact called “Pretty”, and it is many girls dream to be chosen as a “Pretty” to represent a certain brand, especially high-end brands.
Whether it is a car expo, computer expo, or furniture expo, you’ll find that these events are jammed packed with “Pretties” and hormone raging men. Most of the event goers are more fascinated by the beautiful ladies rather than the products.
I met a Pretty by the name of Amp at one of the shows. She is indeed very pretty and kind enough to give me a short interview. Somkid: Thanks for taking a time-out to talk to me, Amp. I just want to ask you a few questions about being a so called “Pretty” and share with our readers on www.thaixperience.com
Amp: Sure, not problem at all.
Somkid: So tell me, how long have you been a “Pretty”?
Amp: For about 3 years now.
Somkid: How did you get started in this career path?
Amp: In the beginning I didn’t intend to become a “Pretty” at all. When I applied for the job, I thought it was a PR position. At that time many of my schoolmates applied for the job and got accepted, and it was one the reason that made me applied as well. We became the “Let’s Play Gang” and that’s how things got started.
Somkid: What do you like most about being a Pretty?
Amp: I get to work at different type of events, so it doesn’t get boring. Plus the money is quite good compared to the average jobs. I also like getting dressed up in pretty outfits.
Somkid: On the flipside, what do you like least about being a Pretty?
Amp: Well, the job is not that stable, there are lots of competitions for the same jobs from other girls. There are many young and beautiful pretties nowadays.
Somkid: If you don’t mind, can you tell me how much do you get paid for a typical event?
Amp: I get about 2000-3000 Baht per event
Somkid: Do you have a boyfriend?
Amp: Yes
Somkid: Oh!...hmmm…so is he jealous about your career choice?
Amp: Yes, at the beginning he was quite jealous. He also didn’t want me to accept any nighttime events, but I wanted to. We had many long talks in the early days but we eventually worked things out. We met half way, I wouldn’t accept any nighttime events that would be dangerous.
Somkid: I see, yeah..things can get out of hands at those events sometime.
Somkid: So are you looking for a new boyfriend?
Amp: Not right now.
Somkid: Ah…ok, never mind then . Thanks for your time again.
Amp: My pleasure. |
