| One of the most spectacular Chinese temples I’ve ever witnessed was literally right around the corner from house. The temple is called “Wat Leng Nei Yi 2”, located in the Bangbua Tong district of Nonthaburi province, which is just under an hours drive from downtown Bangkok (Sukhumvit or Silom area). The “2” in the temple’s name indicates that it’s the second version of the original temple that’s located in the Yaowarat (Chinatown) area. Due to the enormous amount of visitors to the temple and limited space for expansion in the prime real estate area of Yaowarat, the temple expanded to Nonthaburi by building a brand new and grander second version. Wat Leng Nei Yi 2 sits on a massive 4.6 acre compound, and its construction took 12 years with a cost of over 1 billion Baht! The temple was recently opened to the public on March 20th 2008, with the crowned prince presiding over the opening ceremony. The temple is build true to the Mahayana Buddhist tradition with its traditional Chinese architectural designs and Feng Shui discipline, one can easily think they’re somewhere in China. The temple is a good place for worship for those that are Mahayana Buddhist or even Theravada Buddhists. It’s also a great place for a day tour to snap splendid pictures for your collection. It should take a bit over an hour to walk through the entire compound, and if you get hungry there are many restaurants outside the temple offering traditional Thai dishes. I was there to take pictures and also paid respect to the images of Buddha and the goddess Guanyin. I went home for lunch since I live about 10 minutes drive from the temple  I would definitely recommend this place to anyone for a break from the traditional Thai temples.
