Crazy Energy Drinks

Bangkok is a city that never sleeps as it is always bustling with life around the clock. If you ever wonder how people can stay awake and energized all day or night long, the answer to that is with the help of energy drinks! I don’t mean coffees, that’s too expensive for many Thai folks, what I’m talking about is something much cheaper and about ten times more potent than coffees. It is chock-full of sugar, caffeine, taurine and other stimulants that will turn you into the Incredible Hulk within seconds. They are available in every 7 Eleven stores with names such as “Red Bull”, “Carabao”, “Lipovitan-D”, or “M-150”. The list goes on and on as there seem to be a new brand nearly every month.

Energy drinks has been popular in Thailand long before Red Bull was modified and marketed to the world. The craze is going strong as ever here, as you’ll notice from TV, magazines, and billboard ads throughout the country.  I remember sneaking a sip of Red Bull when I was 8 or 9 years old, and that was 20+ years ago (and it’s probably a reason why I’m an addict until today). What I tasted as a kid is still the same flavor today: syrupy, sweet, tangy, and definitely “gives you wings”.

I think what make these energy drinks so appealing for us Thais is the feeling of being re-energized after downing an iced cold bottle in the midst of the sweltering heat, and best of all it only costs 10 to 12 Baht. Talking about a bargain, huh?

So if want to make the most of your vacation time here and not waste a single minute sleeping, then grab a bottle or two of these energy drink and enjoy!

Cheers!
