Cheap Bling-Blings

For some bling-blings that won’t blow your pocket, the place to go is “Klong Tom”, a frantic road in the Bangkok’s Chinatown area. Just like many Chinatowns around the world, this place is famous for getting knocked-off luxury watches. From Rolex to Breitling, Cartier, and Panerai, they have nearly all the top brands and the latest models to choose from. Since it’s illegal to sell these and display them publicly, the way it works is you check out the different watches in a magazine or catalogue and point to the one you’re interested in. You then wait a couple of minutes for someone to get it for you from the back of a shop. The vendors will tell you that their watches are grade A quality, made in Thailand and thus the low price. They’ll quote you around 2000-3,000 Baht on a watch, but you should bargain for around 1100-1200 Baht as anything more is not really worth it (in my opinion). These watches look quite decent for a fake nowadays and any non-watch enthusiasts wouldn’t be able to tell, especially from a distant. They make quite a nice gift and look pretty cool at a poker table.

Besides getting a fake Rolex, Klong Tom is basically a nightmare for the movie and recording industry execs, as bootleg movies and music are abound. There are also toys for both kids and adults. Yeap!...dildos and vibrators right there on the roadside. I couldn’t snap any pictures to show you coz selling sex toys are illegal (oh, you can go buy a gun legally a couple roads down though!) and these vendors don’t appreciate people taking pictures of them selling these. Don’t want a dildo or need something to go with it? You can get some Japanese porns from the guy at the next booth, 3 for 100 Baht only! What can I say?..this is my country…this is Thailand… and this is life!..I take it for what it is and loving it here….and you’ll have to come over and Xperience it out for yourself!

How to get there:
The best way to get there is via a Tuk-Tuk and taxi. Remember to ask for the price first before getting on a tuk-tuk and make sure the taxi driver turns on the meter first.
Thai Spelling:
คลองถม (Klong Tom)
